QUESTIONS ABOUT THE DIGITAL RESEARCH ACADEMY

Why did you start the Digital Research Academy?

The quality of research is as good as it could be. We see reproducibility crises, a lack of trust in each other’s work, toxic power structures, even fraud. In order to bring cultural change into a flawed academic system, we need people to know which way to go. Make it easy for them to do the right thing. We see training as one important building block towards better research and better research culture. Digital Research Academy Logo.

What is the difference between the Digital Research Academy and The Carpentries?

  • The Digital Research Academy does custom training to improve research quality.
  • The Carpentries run standardized training on foundational coding and data science skills. We love the work of The Carpentries and see them as an ally organisation <3.

QUESTIONS ABOUT TRAINING

What topics does the Digital Research Academy offer?

We focus on topics related to research qualitiy with a focus on Open Science, Data Literacy and Research Software Engineering. These topic groups are pretty broad and that is intentional.
We want to provide training that matters to you and with our big trainer community we have so far been able to help almost everyone who requests training from us. We offer custom training for your needs, so if you wonder if the topic you want to learn about is something we can handle, just ask! Get in touch!

Who runs the training?

We are a community of trainers. Depending on the topic, location and target audience, we’ll find the best fitting trainer for your needs.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE TRAINER COMMUNITY

How can I join the trainer community?

  • We onboard new trainers through our Train-the-Trainer program.
  • To ensure you don’t miss any upcoming Train-the-Trainer programs, sign up to our newsletter!

As a trainer, do I get paid?

One of our guiding principles says:
We ensure everyone in the network is paid or rewarded for their efforts
So, yes, our trainers get paid for the wonderful work they are doing. Volunteer work can lead to inequity, because not everyone can afford to do time-intensive work like training for for free. Fair pay is hence also a way to be as inclusive as possible.
